What: Instructor John Renner of Timshel Development will walk participants through a comprehensive workshop designed for small business owners navigating the complexities of commercial real estate. This workshop will focus on providing essential insights into best practices for building and neighborhood research, understanding your commercial real estate needs, what is buying versus leasing and the important terminology and key stakeholders involved in the process.

Bio:

John has 20 years of experience as a real estate developer, development consultant, and financial advisor for complex urban revitalization projects. He has managed a wide variety of project types including adaptive reuse, master-planned communities, high-rise urban infill, and the gut renovation of small multifamily buildings for affordable housing. He has experience with most types of tax credit and special finance programs including green building tax credits, energy tax credits, New Markets Tax Credits, Low Income Housing Tax Credits, state and federal historic tax credits, PACE financing, and Tax Increment Financing (TIF). Timshel is currently leading the redevelopment of the Parlor at 108 W. North Ave. and North Avenue Market. 

Prior to launching his own company in June 2021, John was the VP of Cross Street Partners (CSP), a multidisciplinary, mission-oriented real estate company. At CSP, John managed the completion of 250,000 sq. ft.+ of adaptive reuse and historic preservation projects, mostly located in neighborhoods that have experienced decades of disinvestment. 

Before joining CSP in 2010, John was the Managing Director of Rwanda Village Enterprises, Ltd., a for profit company building mixed-income, earth-friendly housing in Africa. Prior to that, John was the VP of Real Estate Development at Becker + Becker Associates, Inc., an integrated architecture, planning, and development firm based in New York City and Connecticut. At Becker + Becker, John helped develop the Octagon, the first LEED Silver building also on the National Registry of Historic Places, 360 State – a 500-unit LEED Platinum redevelopment project in downtown New Haven, and the Wauregan – the conversation of an abandoned hotel in Norwich, CT into affordable housing. 

Previously, John worked as a Development Manager with the Fifth Avenue Committee (FAC), a non-profit affordable housing developer in Brooklyn, and the Bozzuto Group, an integrated real estate company with development projects in Maryland, DC and Virginia. While working for Bozzuto, Mr. Renner helped develop the Spinnaker Bay building in Baltimore’s Harbor East community.
